MAC Beginner Kit

09:28

Hello everyone!

After coming back to blogging, I've realised that whenever I speak about MAC, there is a quite of few bloggers who have never tried any MAC products. So I thought to help, I will recommend products that are worth purchasing for a beginners MAC kit! I've only confined it to my top four but let me know in the comments if you would want me to do an extensive list!

 CONCEALER

If you are looking for an all purpose high coverage concealer than this is the one for you! I say this is all purpose concealer because it can be used to cover dark circles as well as blemishes. This is very thin in consistency so it doesn't crease underneath my eyes and it isn't drying either which is unlike the Mac Studio Finish Concealer which many have said can be very drying. The only annoying thing about this product is the packaging, the pump would be such a great idea if the right amount of product came out! This pump pushes out too much product and is very difficult to control so you're either left with a tiny amount of concealer or way too much. I've also known other people to use this as foundation so its a dual purpose product!

BLOT POWDER

During summer, my T-zone became so oily and my normal setting powder wasn't cutting it. Mamamfulzo, (who you should definitely check out) talked about the MAC blot powder, so I went to a MAC counter and purchased it and I absolutely love it. It just took away the shine from my face without it looking too matte. I have also heard that the MAC Studio Fix Powder is amazing but I haven't personally tried it.

EYESHADOW

MAC eyeshadows can be do daunting  because there are so many shades with different finishes and its difficult to know what shades will work together. So I recommend purchasing the Deluxe Pearlfusion Shade, which usually of a palette of five eyeshadows! These palettes are useful because many of the colours with correlate to work really well with each other but the pigmentation of these eyeshadows are amazing too, so buttery and apply like a dream!

LIPSTICK

Everyone needs a gorgeous red in their make-up kit and my recommendation from MAC would be Russian Red. This is such a gorgeous shade of red which I think would be flattering on so many skin tones. Russian Red does have a matte formula but it isn't drying at all. This is extremely pigmented, glides onto the lips smoothly and has a long lasting power. I usually wear this when I am going clubbing because I know this lipstick will last without any top ups. I do want to try out Ruby Woo but i've heard that the retro matte formula can be very drying so I thought I would point that out.

So there we have it, my top picks for a beginners MAC kit! I actually have many other products that I wanted to include but I may leave that for another post!

I hope you enjoyed reading and let me know what are your top picks from MAC!

Thank you for reading

  1. Wow, this is such a wonderful post, Adalia, and perfect for someone like me who isn't too familiar with all of the products that MAC offers! It's so overwhelming walking into the store and not knowing where to start or what you should get for that matter. I've also found that a lot of the artists who work there kind of expect you to have a bit of knowledge of the brand upon entering, so they're not all too helpful, at least that's what I've experienced. Thanks so much and I'll certainly use this as a reference :) I hope you have a lovely day!

    1. One tip I have for getting matched especially in MAC stores is to go into natural lighting and assess the colour because the lighting in MAC is too artificial so doesn't represent an accurate shade! xx

  20. I haven't tried too many MAC products I have a couple of eye liners in my collection and one red lipstick which I love and like you use it for going out :-).

I think I tried one of MACS foundations once and I really didn't like it so never bought any more from there range I also have one of MACS highlighter which I have only used a couple of times soft and gentle which everyone swears by but I have better highlighters in my collection for less money then I paid which is a shame because MAC has such a great reputation but the lipsticks are so pigmented I definitely would like to have more of them and maybe try a different foundation.

I think this was a really helpful post for beginners as it can be quite daunting not knowing what products to get.

  30. I've never thought about trying some of their eyeshadow palettes, I need to check them out! I do own both Mac Russian Red and Ruby Woo, and, although I believe they are both matte, I prefer Russian Red, I just prefer the shade and I find its longevity better, yet it isn't as drying as Ruby Woo!

  37. I am not a huge MAC fan, except for lipsticks :) Lipsticks I love :) Rest I can live without. I feel foundations aren't made for dry skin and powder products (pressed) aren't great. I love Russian Red, although my old time favourite must be Girl About Town :)

  44. Apart from lipsticks I've not tried anything else from Mac, don't know why cause I have a long list of things I would like to try, maybe because I don't have a Mac counter nearby to get shade matched etc. I'm not tempted by the eyeshadows because they're too expensive to create a palette and I have amazing eyeshadows in my collection that are cheaper. I want to try the Mac powder after reading your recommendations :) x
